Solar Batteries NSW

Solar Batteries NSW

Boost your energy efficiency, increase your savings, and minimise your reliance on the local grid.

Solar panel systems make it possible for people in New South Wales to use clean, green energy to power their homes and businesses. The energy from the sun that your panels collect can be used right away, sent back to the grid or saved for later. If you want to do the third option, you'll need solar batteries that can keep up with your energy needs.

A solar battery lets you get the most power out of your solar panels by storing the energy from the sun for later use. Adding this complementary add-on to your system has many benefits, including:

  • Stores solar energy and lets you use it on demand
  • Boosts the efficiency of your rooftop solar panels
  • Improves your environmental sustainability
  • Opens up a new source of income by selling extra energy back to the grid
  • Increases your credibility with customers who care about the environment (for businesses)

Solar Battery Incentives for NSW Homes

The NSW government currently offers affordable clean energy incentives for every solar system installed on your home.Through this program, the NSW government is able to assist low-income homeowners in lowering their electricity costs.

You may save up to $600 a year on your household electricity bills by going solar, which is a terrific way to lessen your environmental impact. The Low Income Household Rebate, which is $285 per year, is up to twice as much as that.

To be eligible for this incentive, you must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Low income households who currently receive the Low Income Household Rebate
  • Households who agree not to receive the rebate for 10 years
  • Household member who holds a valid Pensioner Concession Card or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card
  • You are an owner and an occupier of an existing property
  • Your home address has not yet received a solar PV system

With this program, eligible homeowners will be qualified for:

  • a free 3 kilowatt solar system installed on your home

Solar Battery Incentives for NSW Businesses

The Commonwealth Small Scale Renewable Energy Scheme is also known as the Federal Government solar rebate scheme for solar systems under 100kW in size.

You can generate a specific number of small-scale technology certificates, or STCs, for each kilowatt of solar panels that you install. This means that you get paid for each STC because power retailers purchase them in order to fulfil their renewable energy commitments.

Each STC will probably go for around $30 which amounts to about $18,000 off the price of the system for a 30kW system. However, since the STC discount is typically already included in solar prices, there is no way for you to save an additional $18,000.

This program is currently being phased out until 2030, and at the beginning of each calendar year, the value of STCs will decrease by 7%. To be eligible for this scheme,

  • Small scale Technology Certificates (STCs) issued within a year of installation
  • The project must use panels and inverters listed on the Clean Energy Council list of Approved Components.
  • Solar system must have a maximum 100kW DC capacity
  • Complies with all local, state, territory and federal regulations, including electrical safety

Join a VPP to Harness the Full Potential of Your Solar Power System

Solar generation allows us to lower our monthly electricity costs, but participating in a VPP lets you ramp up your energy savings even further. The system enables consumers in NSW to generate their own electricity, store it in solar batteries, and then sell it to energy providers during times when demand on the main grid is high.

What Is a VPP?

VPP, or a virtual power plant, enables consumers to reduce their bills by avoiding peak demand tariffs, as well as generating extra revenue by selling their electricity.

It is a cloud-based network of residential solar power systems that are operated by a centralised smart control mechanism. One of the program's main objectives is to help stabilise the grid during times of need. Eligibility to participate in a VPP depends on the type of solar battery that a consumer has.

Discovery Energy VPP

Discovery Energy Virtual Power Plant (VPP) enables solar consumers in NSW to make the most out of their solar power systems. It makes good use of proprietary software to help solar users maximise results.

The Benefits of Joining the Discovery Energy VPP

  • Premium Solar Feed-ins

Solar feed-in rate with profit sharing on Discovery Energy-managed transactions using your stored solar energy.

  • Free Battery Recharges

Battery recharging at no further charge to the consumer.

  • No Exit Fee or Lock in Contract

This is a contract that can be terminated at any time. You are free to leave at any moment without incurring any fees or penalties.

  • Direct Debit & Cash-in Credits

Direct debit payments are simple and credits can be applied to gas accounts or cashed in.

  • 12 Months of Benefit with No Lock-in Contracts

For a full year, you can take advantage of its fantastic benefits.

All correspondence and bills will be sent online via email.

Discovery Energy VPP Eligibility Criteria

Here’s the eligibility criteria for the Discovery Energy VPP:

  • Inverter size should not be more than 10 kW
  • Battery size not lower than 2.5 kWh
  • No life support at the property (a compliance requirement)
  • Direct debit to be set up on the account
  • Credits can be encashed only 4 times a year provided each time the amount is more than $100
  • System to be connected to stable home wifi
